Managing a large, distributed network environment is no easy task, especially when hundreds of sites rely on fast, reliable connectivity to support day-to-day operations.
That was the challenge facing Abuzz, a provider of interactive digital touchpoints for a range of high-profile international clients. With hundreds of sites deployed across Australia, the business needed a smarter and more scalable way to manage its growing network infrastructure.
To modernise its environment, Abuzz partnered with GenesysTel and TP-Link to implement a centralised, software-defined networking solution powered by the TP-Link Omada SDN platform.
The Challenge of Managing a Growing Multi-Site Network
As Abuzz continued to expand, managing multiple locations became increasingly complex. The existing network relied on a legacy private APN infrastructure, which added unnecessary platform costs, operational complexity, and limited visibility across the network.
Deploying new locations also required significant time and manual configuration effort, making it difficult to scale efficiently while maintaining consistent performance and reliability across all sites.
The business needed a modern networking approach that could:
- Simplify deployment and management
- Reduce operational overhead
- Improve visibility across all locations
- Deliver reliable and scalable connectivity
- Support rapid rollout of new sites
A Centralised SDN Solution with TP-Link Omada
GenesysTel designed and deployed a standardised network architecture using the TP-Link Omada SDN platform across more than 400 sites nationally.
The solution included:
- Centralised cloud-based management via the Omada Controller
- Built-in VPN connectivity between sites
- Zero-touch provisioning for rapid deployment
- Standardised configurations to ensure consistency across all locations
As part of the migration, the legacy private APN infrastructure was replaced with a more streamlined 4G LTE-based approach, reducing complexity while delivering meaningful cost savings for the customer.
Faster Rollouts & Improved Visibility
The new environment significantly transformed how Abuzz deploys and manages its network infrastructure.
Provisioning time for new sites was reduced from several hours to under 20 minutes, enabling the business to scale deployments much faster across Australia. The business now benefits from:
- Full visibility across all sites
- Improved reliability through standardised configurations
- Reduced operational overhead
- Faster issue resolution and reduced downtime
- Centralised remote management
- A more predictable and cost-effective network model
According to Paul Pettersen, Operations Manager at Abuzz:
“GenesysTel demonstrated how they could build a new environment, transition us across with virtually no downtime, and the team delivered exactly that.”
Why the Omada Platform Was Selected
The TP-Link Omada platform stood out due to its simplicity, scalability, and predictable licensing model, particularly important for large distributed networks approaching 500 sites.
Cloud-based management capabilities allow GenesysTel to deploy, monitor, and troubleshoot environments remotely without requiring extensive onsite support. The platform also supports hybrid WAN environments, including both broadband and 4G connectivity, providing flexibility across a distributed national footprint.
Building the Foundation for Future Growth
Today, all 500 sites have been configured and staged for rapid activation, fundamentally changing how the business approaches network rollout and expansion.
The project has also created a strong foundation for future SD-WAN capabilities, integrated security services, policy management, and further edge infrastructure consolidation.
Through close collaboration, GenesysTel and TP-Link delivered a modern, software-defined networking approach that enables Abuzz to scale confidently while simplifying operations and improving overall network performance.
